ALLAHABAD: Communal clashes on Sunday marred Holi celebrations at a locality in this town of Uttar Pradesh leaving at least two dozen persons injured and several shops and vehicles damaged in brickbatting, official sources said.

The clash broke out at Sikandarabad locality under Baharia police circle on Sunday evening, when a group of Holi revellers tried to pass through a lane despite objections by the residents of the other community, they said.

The two groups pelted stones at each other and damaged shops and vehicles in the locality before police intervened to separate the warring groups, the sources said, adding at least 24 persons were injured and properties worth several lakhs rupees damaged in the incident.

Additional police force have been deployed in the area, they said, adding senior officials, including the district magistrate and the senior superintendent of Police have rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
