ALLAHABAD: Communal clashes on Sunday
marred Holi celebrations at a locality in this town of Uttar Pradesh leaving at
least two dozen persons injured and several shops and vehicles damaged in
brickbatting, official sources said.
The clash broke out at Sikandarabad
locality under Baharia police circle on Sunday evening, when a group of Holi
revellers tried to pass through a lane despite objections by the residents of
the other community, they said.
The two groups pelted stones at each other
and damaged shops and vehicles in the locality before police intervened to
separate the warring groups, the sources said, adding at least 24 persons were
injured and properties worth several lakhs rupees damaged in the incident.
Additional police force have been deployed
in the area, they said, adding senior officials, including the district
magistrate and the senior superintendent of Police have rushed to the spot to
take stock of the situation.
